And there it stopped…

Warning! If you have a thing against/phobia for feet/toes, do not read this post!

So on Friday I went to my physiotherapist and he told me I could start jogging again! The joy was indescribable! So I got home and I was sort of jumping around with happiness; it was Friday, I had a nice weekend ahead of me and I would be able to go out for a nice jog! Then, in the middle of the joy and happiness I walked into our living room, a bit too fast, and walked straight into our swivel chair… The pain! My little toe got stuck on one of the wheels of the swivel chair, while i was still walking forwards. The result; an extremely painful, swollen toe, that later turned redish-blue. I couldn’t really walk on it and it still hurts walking on it, so I think I might have broken it or sprained it badly. Either way it ruled out that jog I have longed for!

My little toe all bruised…

All taped up to the toe next to it.

So instead of going out for a run I cycled for 20min pretty fast. The cycling shoes were perfect for the toe as I can’t move my toes inside them. After that I did my physio exercises and stretches. Hopefully I’ll be OK for yoga on Tuesday!

Update on the knee!

I am another physiotherapy session richer! Had a new physiotherapist today and he was quite cool, a bit confused but friendly and fun. I, and my knee, seem to be doing well but there is still lots to do and I need to persevere with my exercises. The yoga at work seems to be doing me really good as well. This weekend I will try and do lots of my exercises and do them more properly than I manage during the week.  Hopefully the weather will be nice so that I can do them all outside!

And another week just went by…

So it’s Sunday already, and almost the end of April! Where does time go? It seems like so much time passes so quickly and I never get the chance to do anything worthwhile. Don’t understand how that goes together…

Anyway, today has been a lovely day. Met up with the lovely North London Young Diabetics group and had Sunday lunch. Such a lovely bunch! Had a lovely afternoon with a roast lunch/dinner and a Früli strawberry beer. Yum yum. Then I went and got my haircut. No major difference, just taking off an inch of the ends and make it look healthier :) But things like that are nice to have done.

Now I’ll have to get cracking with my article writing and then I need to do all my physio exercises!

Quick list

Who made you laugh today/yesterday?
It’s too early today, so no one has made me laugh yet as I’m the only person up! But yesterday my lovely team at work made me laugh bucket loads!

What are you doing right now? I’m watching BBC Breakfast in my pyjamas and finishing off my cup of tea. Soon I’ll be tidying away a few things and then jump into the shower :)

What does the rest of the day look like?
After the shower I’ll get dressed and that is probably the best part of the day. For work I have to think of dressing down quite a lot, as I work with severely learning disabled children who on top of that have complex autism, so our clothes are at risk of getting broken and dirty. Dressing up at weekends is therefore something I love! Anyway, after that I’ll meet up some friends for lunch. Looking forward to that too.

What happens tonight?
Rob’s mum and her partner will come by for some dinner.

And on Sunday?
Will meet up with some people with type 1 diabetes for Sunday lunch! Met up with them last Monday and we won a pub quiz. The prize was £30 behind the bar that we can spend on food and drink! Exercise and writing my article will also be a big part of my Sunday ;)

What do your last three texts say?

1. “OK, no probs. Love you” From Rob when I texted that I was probably going to be late home as I got stuck in the pub, oops!

2. “Still here! :( The doctor has just seen him and his mum is on her way and hopefully we won’t be too long! X” From Hannah when I asked when she and Alison was going to be at the pub. They had to take one of the children from school to hospital.

3. “Hey gal, wishing you a very Happy Birthday :) hope you’re having a wonderful day” From Poonam (my supervisor at work) wishing me happy birthday last weekend.

Sometimes you come across real gems.

The other day I was browsing twitter, as you do. One of the things i follow on twitter is JDRF UK, and they had posted this link to a blog written by a teenage girl who has type 1 diabetes (you know the condition I’ve got). Considering her age, she’s really inspiring and I wish I was like her when I was her age! Keeping her blood sugars in control and just making it all work, seeing the positive in it. It’s amazing! So check her out!

Poorly and on my way…

Not feeling so well today… Woke up in the middle of the night as I couldn’t swallow or breathe properly. My throat was so sore and swollen that when I tried to speak to Rob I had a lisp..! That has never happened to me before. So after Rob had given me a “sore throat”-lozenge I fell asleep again and slept through to 10am. I still felt really poorly when I woke up but after a cup of hot green tea my throat was better and I went out to buy some lemsip tablets. Feeling a ton better now and am on the train, on my way to some friends for an Easter dinner :) Having lots of water, fruits and a yoghurt to perk me up and fight this virus off! Don’t want to be ill for the rest of my Easter Holiday!

Yogalicious wish list.

As my knee’s healing and I’m back at work I’ve been thinking of going for the yoga session we’re offered at work. The rate is really good and I think it might be good exercise for the knee, but have to double check with my physio therapist and doctor first. Hopefully I will be at it after the Easter holidays. Then I’ll just need to get some new yoga gear ;) My favourite all time exercise clothes shop is ‘Sweaty Betty’ and they’ve got some amazing yoga clothes. These are on my wish list at the moment;

A lil’ update!

So it has been over a month since I had my operation, or 36 days more exactly! I’ve obviously made some progress and I’m feeling a lot more positive about things now. I can imagine myself at work next week, which is a big relief as that was something I couldn’t do just a few weeks ago. My physiotherapist is very happy with my progress and that makes me more comfortable with the way I am doing.

If you remember this is how much I could bend my leg/knee on day 4.

If you remember this is how much I could bend my leg/knee on day 4.

This is how much I can bend it now! Bit of a difference, right?

This is how much I can bend it now! Bit of a difference, right?

Apart from bending my leg/knee more I am able to stand up for longer, and sit up with my leg down for a lot longer than I could before. I can also walk for a lot longer and I’m obviously walking without crutches now :)

Last time I saw my physiotherapist we established that my balance has got a lot worse since my accident and even worse since the operation. She had me on a rocker board and I couldn’t keep it stable at all! The advice I got was to stand on one leg on a cushion, but that didn’t challenge me at all to be honest. So I started looking online for these rocker boards. Unfortunately they were quite expensive, around £35-40 at the cheapest! Fortunately, I did have a look at eBay and found one for £0.99! So I’ve put a bid on it and hopefully I’ll get it :)

Rocker board! Hopefully I’ll be well-balanced after using this ;)

Guess what I’ve done?

cycling

Yes, you’ve guessed it! I’ve been cycling! I got the all clear from the physiotherapist on Friday and I am now allowed to cycle again. So I’ve been cycling a little bit, only 10min at a time and I have to be careful and listen to my body, making sure I don’t overdo it. In addition to this I have a load of other exercises I have to do in order for me to regain my knee’s full functionality again. There’s this one particular exercise that I have trouble with but it’s getting better. What I really am struggling with is doing it all 3 times a day! How do people manage to exercise 3 times a day? I mean just the change of clothes 3 times a day will eat all my time and I won’t have time to do anything else! How would you do it?
